They are named Core Units simply because they represent the Core of the Shimoda system. Their modular versatility allows users to simplify there gear needs while simultaneously enabling more usability options. The Medium is designed to accommodate larger sized camera bodies – but that doesn't mean it is limited to them. It works wonders with any gear, but especially with gear requiring more depth.
The Explore 40 is the new standard in adventure photography daypacks. We have created a pack to simplify your shooting experience while minimizing physical fatigue. It's intuitive design makes sure camera gear and other essentials like food, water and a mobile phone are always within immediate reach.
The Small Core Unit is a simple insert with a multitude of uses. It is designed to be used on its own or in combination with up to three additional Core Units to expand the amount of protected equipment space in a Shimoda pack or roller as more camera gear is needed.
A lightweight and water-resistant rain cover designed to protect your backpack from nature's elements. The '40-60' size fits both our Explore 40 and 60 backpacks. The Rain Cover has extra volume to accommodate and protect commonly used tripods, and it secures to the pack at three points: to the top handle, and to both sides of the waist belt.

Shimoda developed the DV roller to accommodate our DV-series Core Units, but it also works with DSLR and Mirrorless Core Units as well. The roller will fit large cinema/video camera cameras from RED and Sony, as well as mirrorless and DSLR cameras, especially when paired with large super-telephoto lenses. The DV Roller is taller and deeper than our standard Carry-On Roller, and it’s a great companion for filmmakers who prefer to roll their gear or want an optional and modular piece of luggage to compliment their Action X70 backpack. The DV roller holds either the Extra Large DV Core Unit, or one Large DV and one Small DSLR Core Unit.
The Action X30 is designed for adventurous photographers looking for an efficient, fast access and compact backcountry camera bag. It's an efficient pack, built for action in foul weather, ever-changing environments and challenging terrain. The low-profile of the X30 will comfortably fit most non-gripped mirrorless and DSLR cameras (approximately 4.7 in or 13cm tall) via our Mirrorless Core Unit series.
